Meet Steve Brown, the Finance Chair for Troop 3 and Troop 1003.
Steve has been a member of Troop 1003 since 2022.
Q: Steve, what is your background with scouting?
“I was a cub scout from Tiger through Bears growing up in suburban Chicago. I was a Den Leader in Pack 55 (Mount Prospect, IL) for my older son.
“I have been the Cubmaster for Pack 183 in Louisa since March 2019 and signed up as the Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 1003 in January 2022.”
Q: What about your family?
“My daughter Caroline (College Junior) was in Girl Scouts from first grade through 7th grade. My son Alek (HS Senior) was in Scouting from 1st grade through 8th grade, Georgia is currently a member of Troop 1003, and my son Henry is a Cub Scout in Pack 183 and will be bridging to Troop 3 in March 2023.”
Q: When it comes to training, what are a few of the trainings you have received during your time Scouts?
“I participated in the Wood Badge course in the Fall of 2021 and plan to finish my Ticket in the Fall of 2022, and I am also Baloo trained. I am also a member of the Diversity & Inclusion Committee at the Council level.”
Q: What are your favorite things about Scouting?
“I strongly believe that being a leader in scouts has made me a better person, and I have learned as much from the scouts as they learn from me (if not more).
“Scouting is an unparalleled opportunity for youth to learn in a safe environment. My favorite thing about scouting is the focus on the outdoors (Camping, Hiking, Cooking and Conservation are huge parts of the Scouting experience).”
Q: What are a few of your professional achievements?
“I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, and a Leadership & Change Management MBA from DePaul University in Chicago. I work as a Finance Operations Manager at Snagajob in Richmond, VA.”
Q: What do you do outside of Scouting?
“When I am not at scouts or work, I am probably tinkering around in the woods around my house, playing/ coaching volleyball, or hiking.”
